Frequently Asked Questions
How much memory do I need in a VPS?
For people coming from a dedicated server the amount of memory you get with a VPS can seem very low. However, as an OpenVZ uses a shared kernel 400MB is more than enough to run a VOIP server. For example the SysAdminMan template VPS only uses 100MB once it starts leaving plenty free for the running of the system. The Elastix template is only available on the 600MB+ plans as it is more resource intensive.
How much disk space do I need?
Again, if you're used to dedicated servers 10GB disk space sounds like very little. However the full installation of Asterisk, FreePBX and A2Billing only consumes a few GB of disk space leaving several GB's free for logs, sounds files, voicemail etc.
How much bandwidth do I need?
The Asterisk Bandwidth Calculator is an excellent tool for working out your bandwidth requirements. Most people use SIP and g.711 on their trunks so select these when doing your calculations.
Network Connection
UK servers are hosted in the Bluesquare datacentre in Maidenhead, Berkshire in the UK. Servers have excellent latency to the UK and Europe which is essential for VOIP.
How do I access my VPS / what's included?
Please find details here describing what you can expect once you sign up for a SysAdminMan VPS.
